Nicotinamide N-methyltransferase, or NNMT, is an enzyme that is upregulated in the fat tissue of obese animals. Inhibiting it in mice reduced fat mass without reducing food intake, which is a genuinely interesting result because it implies an effect on energy expenditure rather than appetite.
5-amino-1MQ is one of the compounds used in that research.
At the mice. That is not a dismissal, it is a description. The published work is preclinical, and there is no human pharmacokinetic data, no human safety data and no human efficacy data.
NNMT also has roles beyond fat tissue, including in NAD+ metabolism and in some cancers, where its expression patterns are complex. Inhibiting an enzyme with multiple roles, without human safety data, is a bigger unknown than the marketing suggests.
