HCG acts on the same receptor as luteinising hormone. In men that means direct stimulation of testicular testosterone production, which is why it is used alongside exogenous testosterone, where the shutdown of natural LH otherwise causes testicular atrophy and impaired fertility. In fertility medicine it is used to trigger ovulation.
These are well established and well evidenced. This is one of the few compounds on the supplier list that is an ordinary approved medicine.
The HCG diet has been around since the 1950s and it does not work. Controlled trials have repeatedly shown that HCG produces no greater weight loss than placebo when calories are matched. The results people see come entirely from the severely restricted diet that accompanies it, typically around 500 calories a day, which is itself unsafe without supervision.
FDA requires HCG labelling to state that it has not been demonstrated to be effective adjunctive therapy in the treatment of obesity. Over-the-counter homeopathic HCG products for weight loss are fraudulent and FDA has taken action against them.
Requires monitoring. Considerations include oestradiol elevation from increased aromatisation, and in fertility contexts ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome, which is a genuine medical emergency. This is not a compound to run without labs.
