Kisspeptin is encoded by the KISS1 gene and acts on the KISS1R receptor in the hypothalamus. It is the signal that triggers GnRH release, which in turn drives LH and FSH, which drive gonadal hormone production. Loss of function mutations cause failure of puberty, which is how its role was discovered.
That makes it genuinely upstream, further back in the chain than anything else commonly sold in this space.
There is legitimate academic work using kisspeptin to investigate hypothalamic function, in fertility research including as a trigger in IVF protocols, and in studies of sexual arousal pathways. Some of that work has produced interesting findings about central arousal circuits.
What does not exist is a trial base supporting the way it is marketed to consumers: repeated self-administration for libido or testosterone. The very short half life also means the dosing patterns circulating online have no clear relationship to how it was studied.
