FDA has issued repeated public warnings about melanotan-2. Reported effects include nausea and vomiting, blood pressure changes, spontaneous erections, and darkening and change in existing moles. Case reports have described new or changed melanocytic lesions in users, and at least some have described melanoma diagnosed in the context of use.
We are not going to soften that. This is the compound on the list where the risk is clearest and the benefit is purely cosmetic.
Melanotan-2 activates several melanocortin receptor subtypes rather than one. MC1R gives the pigmentation. MC4R involvement produces the sexual and appetite effects. That lack of selectivity is the whole reason the side effect profile is what it is, and it is not a formulation issue that a better supplier can solve.
A compound that stimulates melanocytes systemically will act on all of them, including any that are already atypical. Users report existing moles darkening and new pigmented lesions appearing. That matters because it makes melanoma surveillance harder at exactly the moment it becomes more important. If you have used this, tell your dermatologist.
